150 Years of History
Since its creation, the Café des Deux Magots has been frequented by illustrious artists such as Guillaume Apollinaire, Louis Aragon, André Gide, Jean Giraudoux, Fernand Léger, Jacques Prévert, Ernest Hemingway, …
It has hosted many literary and artistic movements such as the surrealists under the aegis of André Breton or the existentialists around Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.
Today, just as popular, it attracts personalities from the world of arts and literature, fashion and politics, and tourists who come to take a bite out of Paris.
The left bank spirit
Les Deux Magots embodies the Left Bank spirit for the entire world. The establishment has spanned the ages, managing to reflect each era's unique character. Initially a novelty shop in 1812, it later became a liquor store and then a literary café.
An essential meeting place for artists of all backgrounds since the end of the 19th century. Picasso, Prévert, Vian or even the enfants terribles of the New Wave, all the avant-garde artists frequented the terraces of Les Deux Magots at one time or another to remake the world or simply to be inspired.
The adventure continues as today's celebrities from publishing, film, press, and fashion stroll from one terrace to another to savor the most authentic aspects of the French spirit.
